This afternoon, wander through the sophisticated streets of Milan joining your Local Specialist on a tour that will reveal the city's iconic and unexpected highlights. See the Gothic Cathedral, glass-domed Galleria and La Scala Opera House, one of the finest opera houses in the world. This evening join your fellow travelers and Travel Director for a Welcome Dinner and evening orientation drive.

DAY 3
Journey to Parma (1 night)

Leaving sophisticated Milan behind, today is the day to treat your taste buds. Gourmands will adore our Dive Into Culture visit to a prosciutto factory near Langhirano. There’s time for a photo stop at Torrechiara fortress, perched high above the Parma Valley, before arriving at the Parmigiano Cheese Factory where we’ll learn the ancient craft of Parmigiano Reggiano cheese production – perfected since the 1600s. On arrival in Parma, continue your day of tasting and feasting, deepening your knowledge of Parma’s foodie heritage at an Optional Experience dinner of local specialties paired with Italian wine.

Onwards to the Italian Riviera (2 nights)

Santa Margherita Ligure - Italy
Beyond its obvious attraction as a haven for foodies, Parma is also a fascinating historic center which you’ll come to discover this morning with your Local Specialist. Learn all about its history as a Roman settlement and medieval trading hub, including such sights as the Piazza Garibaldi, the site of a Roman Forum 2,000 years ago. You’ll have some free time for lunch perhaps indulging one last time in the city’s legendary cuisine, before heading to Santa Margherita on the Italian Riviera. Slow it right down this evening, taking in the tranquil seaside setting as you walk along its pretty promenade, with an evening to do as you wish.

Admire Colorful Cinque Terre

Today we explore the dramatic coastal setting of UNESCO-listed Cinque Terre on an included full-day excursion. The deep blue Ligurian Sea provides a stunning backdrop for the expanse of pastel pinks, yellows and oranges that cling to the rugged seaside cliffs. Cruising along the coast by boat (weather permitting), our Local Specialist will captivate us with tales of how the Cinque Terre region's isolated position protected it from pirates in years gone by. Returning to our hotel, we’ll enjoy dinner with our fellow travelers, sharing stories of the magnificent cliffside villages we’ve spent the day admiring.

Off to Genoa & Lake Maggiore - Baveno (2 nights)

Based on the beautiful waters of the Mediterranean, the maritime city of Genoa is also the birthplace of Columbus and your first stop today as you join a Local Specialist for a guided walking tour to view the city’s majestic Renaissance and Baroque architecture. Visit Via Garibaldi, the historic center of Genoa lined by ancient palaces, and enjoy time for lunch in the city center, perhaps sampling some of the local focaccia before continuing to Lake Maggiore. Set against the backdrop of the Southern Alps, the scenic shores of this lake are your home for the next two nights, as they are for many well-heeled locals. Later, you have the opportunity to explore Lake Orta on an Optional Experience with a Local Specialist to delve into the delights of the Italian Lake District.

Lap up gentle lakeside living during a full day spent at leisure in this picture-perfect setting. Spend the day relaxing or take an alpine train journey to see the magnificent panoramic views of the north. Later, you could choose to join an Optional Experience to one of the Borromean Islands – Isola Bella, which includes a visit inside the aristocratic Borromeo Palace and its gorgeous terraced gardens. This evening, we cross the tranquil waters of Maggiore to secluded Isola dei Pescatori to Connect With Locals at a Be My Guest experience (subject to availability). Join the Cinque family and hear all about the intriguing history of Villa Toscanini situated on a tiny romantic island which was the hideaway of the great Italian conductor Arturo Toscanini - one of the most influential musicians of the 19th century.

On to Lake Como and Verona (1 night)

This morning we head to Lake Como. Enjoy views of elegant villas and gardens as you cruise with your Local Specialist along Lake Como to Bellagio, one of the most beautiful spots in the Italian Lake District. There is some time to explore Bellagio and have lunch before we to continue to Verona, home of Shakespeare's ill-fated lovers Romeo and Juliet. During a leisurely walking tour our Local Specialist will bring the elegant streets and piazzas of Verona to life. Highlights include views of the mighty arena, the intricately carved tombs of the powerful Scaligeri family and the medieval market place. You may choose to visit Juliet's balcony or the Roman amphitheater on your own.

Verona to the Dolomites (1 night)

Cortina dAmpezzo - Italy
Today head to Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy’s most exclusive ski resort and a beautiful alpine haven during summer and explore the colourful peaks and sheer valleys of the Dolomites – one of the most impressive mountain ranges in the Alps. Upon arrival you may decide to join a thrilling optional cable car ride to the summit of one of the peaks for breathtaking 360 degree views. This is weather and season dependent. This evening we'll drive through the countryside to the foot of the Tofane Mountain in the heart of the Dolomite Ranges, where we'll enjoy fantastic cuisine in a superb setting (subject to availability). We'll soak in the atmosphere of a popular local restaurant while enjoying traditional Northern Italian hospitality and sampling delicious regional specialties and local wine.

It's off to the romantic island city of Venice with its rich cultural and artistic heritage to spend time wandering through the city's labyrinthine lanes, over bridges and into quiet campi. Savor the iconic and unexpected highlights of Venice as you pass by St. Mark's Square, admire the Bridge of Sighs, Palladian churches, Customs House, St. Mark's Basilica and the ornate Doge's Palace. This afternoon, you will gain insights into the delicate Venetian art of glassblowing. Spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure admiring this city on water or consider an Optional Experience to the island of Burano where colorful fishermen’s homes line the canals.

Sites made famous in poetry, song and prose are explored today when we join a Local Specialist for a walking tour along the canals to the famous Rialto Bridge, where all the flavors of Italy come to life at a centuries-old food market. Amble through the narrow calli of Venice and admire the beautiful architecture, walking over the Rialto Bridge before gliding gracefully on a gondola along Venice's dreamy, narrow waterways while be serenaded.
